Any floating debri will get caught in a sponge intake on the reverse power head kit. Within a matter of hours I now have a crystal clear tank with pristine water. The UG is certainly no exception to that. The concentration of flow will mean faster clogging, lower flow and motor strain. I changed water 4 days in a row and still cloudy.

"Overall fairly easy."I have been using an Aquaclear 50 on a 20g long planted tank. Much better than the cartridges you get when you buy the filters. Fill with the supplied carbon and voila. Also work great as filler for canisters and other filters. If your looking for a great media pad, stop here and order this! So stock your tanks a few fish at a time. Does the job and price was less or at least same as big retailers.

"Excellent media!"Better than branded media filters cartridges. It was easy to assemble and very effective! It works okay for now but I hope it does not mess up my filter in the long run. I took off two points because the pictures are misleading. Make sure to select the Medium size from Tetra. For obvious reasons, don't put them directly above or below a tank. The first piece does get a bit dirty and usually only lasts a week.

"I highly recommend it."Don't shut it off for more than a few minutes at a time. Most plants won't like the highly oxygenated gravel and will die. It comes with carbon filters, and air stones. The material is a soft and not abrasive at all. But a small simple rubber band fixed the issue quickly. The concentration of flow will mean faster clogging, lower flow and motor strain. My tank is 12x36 so I utilized 3 of the panels.

Of course you will need to let the silicone cure before installing in water. Outside tank on deck with just a few fish.

"Without making a mess!"The main part is cleaning, that I need to find out. They do feel a little thin but we'll see how they hold up over time. I'm using this pad to HOB filters AC70 bottom and top of it’s sponge. Just be careful punching out the plastic. I purchase the 8 pack size Large and fits great on my TopFin 40 Gallon Filter. Of course you will need to let the silicone cure before installing in water. For my smaller fish tank I find that it is just enough.

Every tank should have intake sponges. I rinsed and reuse same pad again 3 times and trashed later. I have been using an Aquaclear 50 on a 20g long planted tank. The Tetra Medium bio-bag slip easily on an original Top Fin plastic holder. It eventually begins to decompose into ammonia which is harmful to your fish. I have been buying these bags for years. Much better than the cartridges you get when you buy the filters. I will be using Koral Filter material from now on.

"Love this sponge filter."Why not save some money to put towards more fish or supplies. But if you don't weekly vacuum it up, it will eventually clog the filter. I changed water 4 days in a row and still cloudy. I had to take a blade and run it through all the slats because the factory doesnt q. It made no sense why one was ten and the other was twenty. I also suppose my measuring tape may be off, but I would not think so. It includes 12 mesh filter bags& 12 packets of charcoal.

In 20 gallon and under sized tanks these start becoming feasible primary filters. My pad collected yellow cloudy color also all waste.

"I cycle lots of tanks."Because they are the smart thing to do when you keep aquariums. Luckily I'm using powerheads and the weight of it helps hold it in place. You can put power heads on the riser tubes to increase the flow through the filter. I was having a problem with tiny fish getting sucked into the inlets. Work perfect on my shrimp tank to keep them out of the filter. I just changed it today and the water is crystal clear-- no problems.
