This was a very nice sand and I enjoyed it very much! And it is not recommended that you rinse it out. We used regular tap water and water from our main tank. I decided that I'll keep the sand after all. Plants are easy to plant in it as well. A bit beige mixed with white, but the crystals are still very pretty. It helped the water clear up faster.

If you can keep your tank clean, this is perfect for you. My Corydoras are having a field day! No need to rinse before putting in aquarium. Perfect sand, I didn't bother rinsing or cleaning it like the directions said. The soft sand makes it easy to place plants without damaging them. All three are inert; therefore, they do not affect ph. Not as thin as sand but works well for our musk turtle substrate.

All three are inert; therefore, they do not affect ph. Within the bag, you will find two small packets. This sand is nice and heavy, and has a nice shine to it. My aquarium was so beautiful with this sand! If I remember correctly, it's normal for new sand to do this. The filter we used was also established with bacteria from the former tank setup. A simple pass with a siphon hose removes most all of the waste.

I never did get around to switching to gravel. The point is, discus and rams do not appreciate getting buffeted. Just cleaned the 5 lbs in a 5 gal bucket in the bath tub. My mystery snails and Malaysian trumpets love it too! This sand is almost exactly like the beach in Destin, FL. Just cleaned the 5 lbs in a 5 gal bucket in the bath tub. Poured water in, ran the filter for a day.

But that is also something to consider with all sands. It's as close to white sand as you can get! I will need 3 more bags if I want a thicker 1 inch layer to fill my entire tank. This is the easiest sand and gravel I've ever cleaned. Color in the pic looks pretty true to the real thing. If you are starting a new tank, this is the one that I would recommend. One bag was enough to cover my standard 10 gallon tank.

My aquarium was so beautiful with this sand! I will need 3 more bags if I want a thicker 1 inch layer to fill my entire tank. I bought it primarily because I purchased five assassin snails and the love sand. This sand is beautiful and incredibly soft! Perfect sand, I didn't bother rinsing or cleaning it like the directions said. This torpedo beach sand is wonderful. It is slightly finer and it hides algae very well.

Was frustrating but nobody's fault but mine. I toss the cloudy water into the streets instead. I used it in my fire bellied toad enclosure, it is cloudy but that's expected. It can shorten the life of your filter's impeller.

It's absolutely beautiful and I'm very pleased with it. Not as thin as sand but works well for our musk turtle substrate. I still love it and maybe will return to it someday after my aquarium is settled in. Cleaning it was easy and I just followed the directions on the bag. I rinsed each bag separately and skimmed the small amount that floated to the top. This could very well be the perfect substrate, except for one thing. I found that red cherry shrimp adore diatoms.
