I am not sure if he ever associated the vibration with food. May want to test it a few times before leaving for a long trip. Its alot more simple than how it reads. Online instructions are not much help. The rechargeable battery makes me feel better about the environment. There are a couple ways to mount this feeder. It is the quiet feeder I ever have. I am sure they all would have worked, but I was skeptical about some features. The unit itself is very sturdy and well made. 5 notches and it's worked perfectly for me.

This will ruin li-ion batteries over time. Set the hour then minute, then number of rotations at that time. The packaging says not to use rechargeable batteries. You slide the opening to adjust how much food you want to come out.

Unfortunately, most pet store aquariums do have a lip. I figure it holds enough for about 5 days at the current feeding rate. Online instructions are not much help. I mix Omega One Color and Tetra Color flake foods in a ziplock bag. You also have the ability to set the portion of feed to be dropped. There is a small sliding door that allows the food to escape. Filling the container is easy, and the auto timer is amazing.

The size of the tank is too small to recommend. Also don't leave the USB port connected to a charger all the time. 3-second Long Press on rightmost button turns feeder on and off. Only downside was that the hole was too big for red tiny bit fish food. Must be at least 1 or it will not feed at all. The other way you can mount this is with a stick on mount. The unit arrived partially charged.
