Yes, its grey not black.
I unloaded it into a bucket and continued to rinse several times. Dont force yourself to look at a boring bare bottom tank! My Corydoras are having a field day! Almost like a sparkle, but not bright. It's absolutely beautiful and I'm very pleased with it. If you are starting a new tank, this is the one that I would recommend. Poured water in, ran the filter for a day.

The water was clear by the next day. I did lots of research on the subject and decided to make the leap. Plants are easy to plant in it as well. Not too white, more a beige-grey color.
