I used the dark side.

If you look closely at the picture, the sand has a slight left to right slant. We love the option to use either side. It really brightens up the aquarium and reflects the light back out. It really brightened up our fish tank. However, I think it went on fairly smoothly. I originally thoight this was only 2 scenes until I read through. It would be easier on a new tank that you can face directly while applying.
